Pulmicort is classified as a corticosteroid medication. It is utilized for the management of asthma symptoms and helps to avert asthma attacks by decreasing inflammation in the lung airways. Consistent use can diminish both the frequency and intensity of asthma episodes. However, it is not effective for alleviating an asthma attack that is already in progress. Daily regular intake is crucial for maximum effectiveness. The medication begins to take effect in approximately 2 hours, although you may not experience its full benefits for 1 to 2 weeks.
Do not use Pulmicort to manage a currently active asthma attack, as it does not act quickly enough to alleviate symptoms. Instead, rely on a fast-acting inhaler for immediate relief.
If your asthma symptoms do not show improvement after 2 weeks of using Pulmicort, consult your doctor.
If you notice that your asthma medications seem less effective than usual, promptly inform your doctor. A rising need for medication may signal an impending severe asthma attack.
Your Pulmicort dosage may need to be adjusted in the event of surgery, illness, stress, or following a recent asthma attack.
Discuss with your doctor if any of your asthma medications appear to be less effective in managing or preventing asthma attacks.
Should you be taking an oral steroid medication along with Pulmicort, avoid abruptly discontinuing the steroid to prevent potential withdrawal effects. Consult your doctor about gradually reducing your steroid dosage prior to stopping completely.
Before starting Pulmicort, inform your doctor if you have any of the following conditions: liver disease, osteoporosis, herpes simplex in your eyes, any form of bacterial, fungal, or viral infection, or a history of tuberculosis.
Seek immediate medical assistance if you experience any allergic reaction signs to Pulmicort, such as hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
If you encounter any serious side effects, contact your doctor right away. These may include weakness, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, faintness, wheezing or breathing difficulties after using Pulmicort, worsening respiratory issues, ear pain with fever, vision changes, or noticeable shifts in body fat distribution
